Here is a close up of the message shown on the LCD whilst the Computer is booting. This is burnt in the PIC micro so is shown until the Operating system is loaded, and the serial bit stream is received. It also shows the buttons used, UP, DOWN, TRACK FORWARD, TRACK BACK, and the ATX POWER button.

Here is the LCD backlit and a song scrolling...

A back view shows the Backlight brightness control, Lan connection, Headphone connection, Power, and the Line Outputs including the composite video out.

On the back is a flywire covered hole which allows the unit to cool. It doesn't get very hot, so convection cooling is all that is needed. This eliminates any fans and the noise they produce.

Here is the final picture of the front.

I had a trophy plate engraved to give it that 1930's classic look. The Infra-Red receiver is hiding in the left hand "quarter window" and works very well through the cloth. So there you have it. A 1930's looking radio, with a 2003 inside. What about the radio? Well after these photos were taken, I put a stereo FM / AM PCI radio card in the back, and it works very well, just like an old one. Interfacing my software to the card was a bit of a bugger, but worked out in the end.

Here is a screen shot of what is running inside.
